With Power Comes Responsibility

Updated: Nov 4

Being in management means you have a certain amount of servant-hood. Are you responsible with the power you’ve been given?

I am a firm believer that management should serve from a position of servitude. Servant leadership isn’t a new concept. The concept became very popular in the late 1990’s early 2000’s. It’s a concept I think should never go out of style no matter how old it is or may sound. Effective leadership is a good thing no matter how old the concept is.

The best way to get the most out of your employees is to serve them. Employees need to know their boss has their best interest in mind. If employees know you are looking out for them they will have no problem working hard for you. When people go to work they want to feel valued and appreciated. That is exactly what servant leadership is about.

Serving people is about providing support, confidence and instilling power in them. There are many ways managers can verbalize and demonstrate appreciation for and confidence in their employees. Your level of servant-hood determines how responsible you are with the power you’ve been given.
